J.N. Wilson's 1994 TIP Award Information
The Teaching Incentive Program (TIP), now commonly referred to as the
Teaching Improvement Program was created by the State of Florida
Legislature in an attempt to provide a concrete award to serve as an
incentive to good teaching. During Academic years 1993-94 and
1994-95, those faculty members given TIP awards received a salary
increase of $5,000 plus associated benefits. Each faculty member receiving
a TIP award is ineligible to receive the award again for three years.
In the Fall of 1994, I successfully applied for a 1994-95 TIP award,
submitting a portfolio describing my
teaching philosophy and accomplishments. The sections of the document
and various specific information contained in the document were
specified by the TIP application procedures. The specific narrative
elements are my own. The supporting letters and attachments are not
included in the browsable version of the document.
I have made this document available for browsing by the general public
for the following reasons:
- To provide those who are only vaguely familiar with the TIP an
opportunity to see what kind of information is included in an applicant's
portfolios.
- To provide prospective TIP applicants with an example of a successful
award portfolio.
- To stimulate thought and discussion about issues brought up in
my portfolio.
