I am a Research Staff Member in the Multi-modal Mining for Healthcare Group at IBM Almaden Research Center. Before I joined IBM, I was a Research Assistant with the Center for Vision, Graphics, and Medical Imaging (CVGMI) at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL from August 2001 to August 2006. My research interests include Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Statistical Shape Modeling and their applications to Biomedical Image Analysis and Image Guided Decision Support. More recently, Ií»ve been working on Large-sclae Medical Image Analysis / Medical Content-based Retrieval. My PhD supervisor is Professor Baba. C. Vemuri.

I received my B.Eng. degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, Anhui, P. R. China, in 2001. I received my M.S and Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Florida in 2003 and 2006 respectively.

I'm an associate editor of International Journal of Image and Graphics (IJIG), and International Journal of Advances in Optical Communication and Networks (IJAOCN), and I'm currently serving as the guest editor of a forthcoming special issue on machine learning in medical imaging for International Journal of Biomedical Imaging (IJBI). I received the Best Poster Award at Computers in Cardiology 2008 for my work on disease discrimination based on cardiac echocardiogram videos. My work has won a couple of IBM Invention Achievement Awards. I have previously co-chaired the first International Workshop on Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, ninth and eleventh IEEE Computer Society Workshop on Mathematical Methods in Biomedical Image Analysis (MMBIA). I have been invited to served in the NIH and NSF proposal review panels, I also served as program committee member of a series of international conferences. I'm an expert reviewer for more than 10 international journals. I'm a member of the MICCAI, SPIE, Sigma Xi, and IEEE.
