The images in the RaceSpace database are loosely classified into five
categories: (i) Negroid, (ii) Mongolian, (iii) Caucasian, (iv) Indo-Arier and
(v) Indianer (Native American). The actual names are drawn from François
Bernier's race classification system from 1684. The principal reason for using
this classification system is because (to our knowledge) it was the first
such published system. To the extent possible, we have attempted to provide
normalized images of each person's face.
