Department Accepted as a BRAID Affiliate

BRAID LogoThe Anita Borg Institute (ABI) and Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, Calif., have accepted the UF Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering as a 2017 BRAID Affiliate school.

The BRAID (Building, Recruiting And Inclusion for Diversity) Initiative aims to increase diversity among undergraduate majors in computer science departments, with particular attention to women and racial/ethnic minorities. As a BRAID Affiliate, CISE is committed to increasing diversity in the department and the industry.

The department excels among computer science departments nationwide in the number of women throughout our program. According to 2016 data from the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), CISE ranks No. 1 among computer science departments at public universities in the number of women faculty and is in the Top 20 for most women enrolled in computer science Ph.D. programs.

UF CISE is among eight other schools selected as the 2017 BRAID Affiliate Schools — California State University-Long Beach, Duke University, McGill University, San Francisco State University, University of St. Andrews, University of California-Los Angeles, and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

UF CISE will be attending the Anita Borg Institute’s Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing from Oct. 4-6. Stop by our booth, number 1942, during the daily expo to meet our faculty and students.
