Ahmed Helmy, Ph.D., CISE professor, and his son, Amir Helmy (13 yrs), Eastside High School, developed two award-winning mobile apps for healthcare called Seizario and HeartEra.

Seizario detects epileptic seizures and falls and automatically alerts emergency contacts. Heartera captures heart movement patterns and beats per minute.

Heartera took first place in the Mobile App Competition at the 20th ACM Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking (ACM MobiCom) in September. MobiCom is the premier conference in the mobile computing and networking areas. Seizario received the 2014 People’s Choice Award from the Epilepsy Foundation Shark Tank competition, which recognizes the most innovative ideas in epilepsy and seizure treatment and care.
