Class projects

As a part of your class project you have three main responsibilities in the following time order:
  1. Mid-term report: (March 2 - 6, 2009) You will present your project topic and current status in a 10-15 minute presentation in class. You will prepare a web page that describes the goals of the projects, presents relevant references, and discusses which datasets/software you will use.
  2. Final presentation: (April 16 - 22, 2009) You will present your results in one full lecture (35-40 mins talk + 10-15 mins questions). You can also demonstrate your software if you have developed any.
  3. Project report: (April 27, 2009 -- before 4pm) You will return a report that describes your contributions and results. This report will be at most six pages at 12pt font size.

Grading guideline

The distribution of the total 100 points to different items are as follows:
  1. Mid-term report: 15
  2. Final presentation: 10
  3. Execution (success in achieving the goals): 55
  4. Project report: 20
  5. Novelty bonus: 10
I will multiply the sum of the points of first four items with a difficulty coefficient. Then I will add the bonus point. The difficulty coefficient is typically a number like 1.0 (for a normal project), 1.05 (for an ambitious project) or 0.95 (for a trivial project).
