This course will rovide a conceptual understanding of database management systems. We will focus on how data is stored and indexed and how queries are processed.

Database Systems: The Complete Book, ISBN: 0-13-031995-3 by Hector Garcia-Molina, Jeffrey D. Ullman, Jennifer Widom

There are also a number of other excellent text books on database systems. I would recommend the following book to interested students for additional reading: Note that this book is only a recommendation for interested students. I will NOT use it in this class.
