Notes for Prospective Students
Currently, I am supervising/co-supervising four Ph.D. students.
Therefore, I will grow the size of my research group very
gradually. I am considering getting one more student during this
year. However, I am not in a hurry to do this. I believe that
reading the items below will be helpful if you are considering
working with me.
- Please read my research interests
and take a look at my publications first.
- If you are not a student at UFL. First, you have to get
admitted to UFL. I encourage you apply to UFL. Sending an email
at this stage is too early and does not help at all.
- Keep in mind that I have to be selective about my students
for I have limited funding and time. It is more likely that I
will financially support student(s) in the Ph.D. program. I
will expect the M.S. students to have external funding. In the
future, I hope to have more funding opportunities for
M.S. students.
- Whether you are an M.S. or Ph.D. student, I will ask you to
take a graduate level course from me and do an independent study
first. This way, 1) you will know whether you want to work with
me better, 2) I will understand your level of interest in the
topic and motivation to do research, and 3) you will get some
background on a potential research area. This means that, you
should have another funding source for one or two semester
before starting as an RA. I also require my students to have a
high GPA at all times during their Ph.D.
- For undergraduate students, I usually have some small
projects that may lead to some research paper. In the past I
have published papers with undergraduate students. I expect from
such students to dedicate a reasonable amount of their time to
finish their project. Although the numbers may change, this
translates into about 10 hours/week for at least one
semester. Also, due to my limitations on time, I won't be able
to accept too many undergraduate students. My primary criteria
for undergraduates is GPA as well and students' interest in the
topic.
- Please feel free to knock my door to discuss about your
research interests.
