1) Thanks everyone for having a great semester. This TA work costs me tremendous amount of time but believe or not, I enjoyed this class amazingly. The class size was huge (biggest ever for a graduate course) and number of TAs were well in short, but most of you followed course requirement and rule very well, and we appreciate your great effort. We wish you the best luck in your future and enjoy your break!!

2) I would like As for grading, we are working day and night to finish soon. If you have not picked up your homework 3 & 4 after the exam (the information was not delivered to the many people who took the exam at FAB 103 unfortunately), please contact YoungSang to know when you can pick them up. Experiment #2 grading is expected to be finished by Saturday and will be sent to each group leader (or every member to the group I have all the e-mail address).

3) Following remote students has not turned in their experiment #2: Lauren Ball, Shrilekha Sampathkumaran. If you have faxed to professor or submitted it to YoungSang, please let me know ASAP.

2008-12-18

1) Grading result of remote students for the exp #1 was sent via e-mail to individuals. You grade distribution is not the same as groups. Your score * 10 will translate to an equivalent score with group scores. Remote students did better in overall than groups, considering it was an individual effort. Accordingly they generally received higher score than groups.

2) TAs do not have information about final exams. Please consult the course website and refer to the course lecture if there was any announcement regarding it.

3) Exp #2 grading is still on-going process but the result will be sent soon.

2008-12-16

Grading result for the exp #1 is sent to each group leader (every member for the groups I had all e-mail addresses). If you have not received the result from anybody, please contact your group leader. Click to see grade distribution.

2008-12-5 second update:

1) Report manual is updated with added description. Questions are the same as Experiment2_fa08_v5.doc but this updated manual (Experiment2_fa08_v6.doc) contains more description that we wrote to give you clearer picture on the experiment based on the feedback.

2) Parsed iPAQ traces contained corrupted MAC address. Now we corrected the problems and updated again. Please download iPAQ traces(spring & fall) again for correct analysis.

3) The timestamp in the N810-4 is incorrect. (2009 NOV) Please discard this trace (N810-4) in all of your analysis.

2008-12-5 update:

1) Exp #2 report submission deadline is extended from 2008-12-8 to 2008-12-10 (midnight). Submission must be done via e-mail to both TAs. You can also submit your hardcopy as well during class or by sliding under the door of CSE 401 to ensure safe submission.

2) Last 4 characters in the MAC addresses of the iPAQ traces (spring & fall) are corrupted. We are currently under working to fix the problem. Corrected traces will be uploaded soon.

2008-12-4 update:

Fixed the broken link. Please download report manual again.

2008-12-3 update:

Report manual is updated. Please download it from the above link. Updated or modified parts are in red color. Other uncolored parts are the same as previous manual.

2008-12-1 update:

1. I will have office hour during 5:00-6:00 pm on this WED (2008-12-3) and 2:00-3:00 pm on this FRI (2008-12-5). Please send maximum two people from your group to the CSE 401 if you have any questions regarding the exp #2. (no need to send anyone if you have no questions.)

2. The following information regarding the timestamp was sent via e-mail to each group representative on 2008-11-29: The timestamp in the parsed trace (including 2008 Fall and 2008 Spring) is Unix epoch time in seconds.
Please be aware that the time will is set to GMT time.
You can check if your time conversion is correct by checking at the website such as (http://www.epochconverter.com).
Many of tools(database, C, Java, etc.) you will choose to use for your analysis provide automatic conversion command from UNIX time to human readable format, hence, you might want to pick up some familiar tools.

2008-11-26 update:

1. Collected Nokia & iPAQ traces are uploaded ! ! Download all the traces to use in your report. All the traces were parsed into easy format. The zip files also include MAC address of each iPAQ & Nokia PDAs.

2. 2008 Spring class trace was also parsed on 11/26/08 and uploaded again. Please download it again. See the link below.

3. Send e-mails for any questions regarding the experiment to Sungwook. You will also find temporary office hour from this webpage in the next week possibly in one or two day(s) (12/1 – 12/5). Please do not send more than two people from your group for questions during office hour.

* FYI: Bluetooth scanning interval is every 90 sec.

* All the devices are returned intact. Thanks. Now the traces are uploaded. N810-3 and iPAQ12 were dropped as the trace is corrupted.

* Following traces are for extra credit section. Download the trace you want to analyze:

traces imote-trace1/2/3

MIT reality mining trace

Singapore University trace (anonymized_BT_log)

Another imote-trace is the trace collected in the city-wide experiment in Cambridge (imote-trace-cambridge)

* Download this experiment #2 report instruction. This document contains the objective, questions you will answer, and submission instruction. -> This document is updated. Refer to the notice on the top.

* Click on this to download the Bluetooth encounter trace from 2008 spring class. -> This trace has been updated to the parsed format.(same as current trace of 2008 fall class) This is the same link as the one above. -> This trace is updated again on 12-5-2008. Refer to the notice on the top.

* Parsers: As uploaded traces were already parsed by the following programs, you will not need to download and execute the parser.

- sample parsed trace : this parsed trace has the followings: timestamp in secs (unix time), MAC address of encountered device, name of encountered device(usually the corresponding device carrier names)

- Parser for Nokia: This parser will convert the collected trace from Nokia devices to the same trace as sample parsed trace above.

- Parser for iPAQ: This java parser will convert the collected trace from iPAQ devices to the same trace as sample parsed trace above. (parser updated)

*** ATTENTION: read if you are unclear about this experiment (This statement is removed as all the contents are in the document). Click here to see the statement.

** Nokia users: please check if you see permission denied on your screen(x-terminal). If you see it, the trace collection program is not running and you need to click on this to see what you need to do:
