    Jam Agenda and Moderator:

    Jam Moderator: Meera Sitharam (for musical questions/suggestions/leading pieces or holding lecdems or anything concerning musical content of Jam agenda, OR if anyone else wants to moderate (actively seeking moderators!), please email: sitharam at ufl dot edu)

    The jam depends on who is present. We will generally follow a flexible Jam format - see below. If any one else wants to lead a piece or has any other requests, please contact moderator sitharam at ufl dot edu. The specific Jam agenda for the upcoming session follows.


    ***Session 1 (30 min, musicianship for children, adults are welcome to participate):
    Warm up short piece in several tempos, accent on gamakas and other characteristic features of Indian classical music.
    Swara recognition exercise; Tala recognition exercise;
    Very simple improv on basic/easy raga, for example: Raga Shankarabharanam/Bilawal or Mayamalavagowla/Bhairav, or Mohanam/Bhupali, or Malahari (Raga = melodic scale/mode) and 4-beat, 3-beat or 7 beat Talam (rhythmic cycle) (does not have to be entirely on the spot improv, you are allowed to prepare a little at home).


    ***Session 2 (1 hour, set pieces+ lecdems): Please go to karnATik website to get any of the below lyrics (nearly 2500 lyrics) and also go to really good audio archive by Shivkumar Kalyanaraman which include his and others' renditions of many pieces
