Indian Classical includes for example:
Carnatic style, or Hindustani style, or their Fusion with
other musical genres (including traditional and folk music
from anywhere in the world, and Jazz).
The emphasis will -generally- be on melodic (microtonal), (poly)rhythmic,
lyrical/phrasing structure plus
ofcourse, improvisation. And -unless it is Fusion- there will usually be no
significant harmonic/polyphonic/chordal content.
***Session 1:
25 min children (raga/tala/swara recognition + improv work well, as do gamakas),
this is run by the moderator
***Session 2:
40 min non-improv group set pieces
(a Jam Agenda for each jam, containing a list of pieces could be sent out
earlier by moderator with lead
volunteer for each piece)
This is interspersed with 10-15 min lecdem by some volunteer (could also be sent out with the jam agenda) +discussion
***Session 3:
Free jam with improv (list of ragas/pieces could be sent out earlier,
but probably not necessary).
The Jam Agenda for a particular date -including the style of pieces played (Carnatic/Hindustani/Fusion)- is primarily set by the musicians who are present (those who earlier volunteered to lead pieces get first priority), and it is influenced also by the audience present.
