Wikipedia Article Assignment

Overall Structure of the Assignment, Grading and Deadlines

Writing and reviewing wikipedia articles using lecture notes, research articles and other relevant material contributes to half your grade for the course.
The dark grey topics in the figure below are already existing wikipedia pages. The 4 other colors represent 4 groups of topics. Each box is a topic.
Students will be assigned to the topic boxes. Each student prepares a wiki page. If 2 students are assigned to a topic box, then they prepare separate wikipages on agreed-upon subtopics.
Students assigned to the same color belong to a group and will critique/review each others' articles, in critical detail, using the comment feature of wiki editing.

The first draft of the wikipedia articles will be due by Feb 18th , with intermediate and final versions due on March 17th and April 2nd respectively. Each draft will contribute 11-16 points, for a total of 40 points.

The corresponding critiques/reviews by other team members will be due on Feb 25th, March 19th respectively and will each contribute 5 points, for a total of 10 points.

Preparation Instructions As the first step, you will collect the relevant research and expository articles required to prepare your page. If two students are assigned to a box, they should decide on the subtopics of their corresponding pages (these pages may be merged eventually).
The next step is to make an outline of your page with
(1) sections and subsections
(2) formal definitions
(3) examples and figures
(4) connections and links to other pages (see figure below)
(5) references. You may consult with the group leader of your color indicated in the figure below to verify whether your reading list is necessary and sufficient and your outline is reasonable. However, it is entirely your job to collect the references, prepare the outline, and subsequently prepare the drafts and critiques/reviews.
