Update:
In 2009, I am joining Nokia Research Center, Palo Alto as a Member of Research Staff.About Me
Previously, I was a Ph.D candidate and Research Assistant in the Mobile and Pervasive Computing Laboratory at the University of Florida. My advisor is Dr. Abdelsalam (Sumi) Helal. Under his guidance, I conduct basic research in the area of sensor networks. My specific areas of interest are:
- Middleware enabling Plug-and-Play deployment of Ubiquitous Embedded Devices such as Wireless Sensors and Actuators in Enterprise and Home Environments.
- Sensor Networks utilizing Service Oriented Architectures (SOA).
- Service Oriented Device Architectures (SODA).
- Query and Event Processing in Sensor Networks.
- Virtual Sensors and Middleware enabling Sensor Fusion.
- Phenomena Detection and Tracking using Sensor Networks.
Despite the rigours of Ph.D research, I try to have a life outside work! In my free time I regularly work out at the gym and I make miniature scale models of aircraft, ships and automobiles. My models have been featured in the Aircraft Resource Center and at Bharat-Rakshak.com (a consortium of websites on the Indian Armed forces).
Research
As part of my research work at the Pervasive Computing Laboratory, I have worked on a number of real-world projects both in academia and in collaboration with industry. I firmly believe that the true success of any engineering research work can only be judged by its validation through implementation and its utility in practical applications. Some of the research projects I have made major contributions to are listed below. For a more complete and detailed description of my research experience, please refer to my CV.
- Project STEPSTONE (collaboration with IBM) [IBM Press Release] [Demo Video]
- Collaboration with GE Research (Asset Intelligence) to enable rapid onsite customization of sensor deployments in Cold chain tractor trailers
- Gator Tech Smart House [NBC News Video]
- Atlas Platform Initiative - A Plug-and-Play Service Oriented Sensor and Actuator Platform
- Sensable - Scalable Query Processing in Service Oriented Sensor Networks
Professional
I am one of the co-founders of Pervasa Inc. It was co-founded by Dr.Helal and a bunch of us guys from the lab. Pervasa is a University of Florida sponsored startup focusing on commercial applications of the Atlas Platform. Pervasa aims at providing products which utilize service-oriented architectures (SOA) to seamlessly integrate heterogeneous sensor and actuator networks into distributed enterprise systems, without requiring technical expertise in embedded systems programming and hardware development. Pervasa won the Best of Sensors Expo Silver award in 2007.
BackPatents
- Modular Platform Enabling Heterogeneous Devices, Sensors and Actuators to Integrate Automatically Into Heterogeneous Networks, published October 2007 (USPTO Link).
