Information for EDGE Students

EDGE students will have to be handled a little differently than local students due to their circumstances.

• Quizzes - these will not be collected or graded. If you wish to provide them for self-assessment purposes, the TAs will grade and return them, but they will not count toward your final grade. Instead, the exam weights will be increased to a total of 70 percent to make up the difference. Regardless of whether you submit them, I urge you to take them so you can both get used to answering questions under pressure (i.e., prepare for exams) and get an idea if you have understood the material covered.
• Programming groups - I will work with the TAs to make some adjustments so that the EDGE team-of-one work load is comparable to that of the 2-3 member teams locally. If you are able to form groups, I urge you to do so. Please inform us either way.
• Due dates - We will explicitly specify assignment due dates for EDGE students. These will typically be 2-5 business days after the local due date.
• Exams - These will have the same constraints as for local students (see the syllabus), and will be proctored. Please leave a margin of at least 1/2" around the pages so that the fax/scan will capture all of your work, and write with dark pencil or ink so that the scans are good.
• Returning exams - Be sure that your proctor attaches a cover sheet indicating that the material is for my attention (not just the course number) if the exam papers are faxed to me. My departmental fax number is +1-352-283-1083. Exams may also be scanned and sent via email to me, or both. I suggest that the proctor copy the exam to verify that the exam can be read/scanned before sending.
• Please do keep me informed of how you are keeping up in class, and if you have any questions regarding the text, lectures, or assignments.
• Email - It will be best to email me and cc the TAs, or vice versa, to get the fastest response. As always, use CEN 5501 in the subject line.
