Class: It was a pleasure to see and hear your CIS/CEN 4914 Midterm Presentations! The quality of presentation and viewgraph ranged from good to excellent, and I am very happy with the results that most of you produced. Suggestions for improvement are simple: 1) If you have small type size, pls. make it larger. Imaging (imagine) that you are talking to people in a room that is twice as deep (front-to-back) than E404. Now, make the type size on your viewgraphs so that people at the back of that room could read your slides. 2) References cited must be in standard format, which is available on the webpage for our class at the link that references citation format. Only a few people missed this one, and we discussed that, so pls. fix this problem on your slides. I really appreciated seeing your flowcharts, screen shots, and in a few cases early versions of a working demo. Impressive! In a week or so, I will send you an email regarding the final presentation - dates, times, and places. Best wishes for success in your projects! We usually like to have this on a Tues/Wed schedule, so that students who have Tue-Thu courses can get a Wednesday slot. The dates, times, and place for Midterm Presentation #2 are as follows: Tue 20 March 2007 - 06.15pm to 10.30pm - CSE/E404 Wed 21 March 2007 - 05.00pm to 09.30pm - CSE/E404 Signup sheets will be posted later today on my office door (CSE/E446). You should prepare seven or eight viewgraphs, as follows: 1) Title slide, as for Midterm Presentation #1 2) Intro slide, as for Midterm Presentation #1 3) Literature sources, maybe a few more than Midterm #1 4) A flowchart of your software or E/R diagram of your database or whatever you have designed 5) A screen shot of any software or web interface that you have developed 6) Another diagram or screen shot, as appropriate 7) Problems encountered since Presentation #1, with work remaining All viewgraphs must be in PowerPoint format. Best wishes for success on your projects :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ----| Message #6: Date: Tue Feb 27 18:30:23 EST 2007 Subject: CIS/CEN 4914 - Congratulations on Midterm Presentation #1 !! Class: Congratulations on your excellent presentations for the first Midterm Presentation, which we did last week!! Your efforts were the best that I have seen thus far. Good work!! I have only two constructive comments: 1) On some presentations, the type size was way too small. A good rule of thumb is to increase the type size so that you can read all the viewgraphs without any difficulty from the back of the room. 2) All literature citations must be in standard format, as described in the "Citation Format" link on the class Web page. This is a matter of professionalism, and is a courtesy to your viewers. I will let you know when I have the dates finalized for the Second Presentation, which will be the week after Spring Break. Best wishes for success in your projects :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ----| Message #5: Date: Fri Feb 16 19:25:04 EST 2007 Subject: CIS/CEN4914 - Reminder for Midterm Presentation #1 Class: Just a reminder that CIS/CEN 4914 Midterm Presentation #1 will be held on the following dates and times: Tue 20 Feb 07 - 6.15pm to 9.00pm - Room CSE/E404 Wed 21 Feb 07 - 5.00pm to 7.30pm - Room CSE/E404 Dress code is casual, but please do not wear cologne or perfume, as allergy season is well along and the allergy sufferers will not welcome another source of allergens. Please prepare MS-PowerPoint viewgraphs as indicated on the Web link for Midterm Presentation #1 on the class Web page. You should have five viewgraphs and be prepared to speak approximately four minutes, with one minute for Q&A. If you are not a native speaker of English, or have some anxieties about speaking to your classmates (or to me), then please rehearse your presentation in front of a video camera, so you can evaluate your performance and improve. Also, if you have not yet signed up for a presentation time slot, please do so immediately, as the signup sheets will be taken down on the day of the presentation. A big THANK YOU to those who signed up already - I look forward to your presentations!
