---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CIS4914 - Spring 2005 - Email Archive ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----| Message #10 Date: Fri Apr 15 19:18:09 EDT 2005 Subject: CIS4914: Excellent presentations, grades posted end of finals week Class: It was a pleasure to listen to your presentations this week for CIS4914 Senior Design course!! The talks and demos were some of the best I have seen thus far. You are to be congratulated! There are a few students whose advisor-graded reports I still do not have: HAIDAR M HALL S PAYNE J RAMIREZ P If your name is on this list, you need to place your advisor-graded final report under my door by this Monday (18 Apr 05). Otherwise, there is the possibility that your grade could be Incomplete. The following students need to make up their presentations, due to illness or extenuating circumstances: KHURANA P QUINONEZ C NEWMARK L STRATTON J Please see me during my office hours (posted on my Web page) next week to give your presentation *and* provide me with your advisor- graded final report at the time of your presentation. There will be no exceptions... Again, thank you for being an excellent group of students, and for your perseverance in completing your projects! Best wishes for success and happiness in your careers!! Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ----| Message #09 Date: Mon Apr 11 21:30:52 EDT 2005 Subject: CIS4914: Signup reminder, Be sure to have your reports with you Class: This is a short reminder to sign up for the CIS4914 Final Presentation if you have not already done so. There are still a few slots left on Wednesday morning. Also, another reminder that you MUST have your ADVISOR-GRADED Final Report with you, ready to give to me, before your present. Some students have asked for a "way out" of this requirement, and I had to tell them that there is really no alternative, because of the logistics of presenting, grading reports, and getting the grades in on time - particularly with a class of 70 students. My apologies for the inconvenience that the report requirement might cause for you. Unfortunately, with our large class sizes, this has been the mode in which we have had to operate over the past 4-5 years. Best wishes for a successful presentation! Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ----| Message #08 Date: Tue Mar 22 19:05:33 EST 2005 Subject: CIS4914 Final Presentation Signup Sheets on CSE/E446 door Class: As promised in my last email to you, I have set the dates and times for the CIS4914 Final Presentation, as follows: Tue 12 Apr 05 : 06.15p - 10.15p E404 Wed 13 Apr 05 : 09.00a - 01.00p E404 Wed 13 Apr 05 : 02.30a - 10.30p E404 Thu 14 Apr 05 : 07.15p - 11.17p E404 My apologies for the late hour on Thursday, but there are many students and I teach until 7pm that day. Now for the details: 1 - Presentations are 12-13 minutes, with 2-3 min of Q&A 2 - You MUST have your ADVISOR-GRADED FINAL REPORT ready to give to me, and you MUST give it to me immediately before you present. With 70 students in the class, it will be very difficult for me to track missing reports, advisors who haven't graded your report, etc. Therefore... ******************************************************** *** You are responsible for getting your report to *** *** your advisor at least 4-5 WORKING DAYS before *** *** you are scheduled to present your report. If *** *** the advisor will be on travel, it is *your* *** *** responsibility to ensure that you get the report *** *** to him/her in time for the report to be graded *** *** and the grade to be entered on the form that is *** *** mentioned below, and that form signed and stap- *** *** led to your report! There will be no exceptions. *** ******************************************************** I don't mean to be nasty by saying this, but it is imper- ative that you get your advisor's graded report to me at the time of the presentation. No exceptions, no excuses. The advisor should use the following form for grading your project: http://www.cise.ufl.edu/~mssz/SeniorProject/senior-FinalRpt-AdvsGrd.html The form can be faxed to your advisor, if he or she is away from the office. If the advisor signs the form and faxes it back to you, that is also acceptable. 3 - Dress code is business formal, as described on the class Web page at: http://www.cise.ufl.edu/~mssz/SeniorProject/senior-time-presentn.html PLEASE DO NOT WEAR COLOGNE OR PERFUME. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION. Allergy season is well underway, and will continue to be so throughout the month of April. There are many of your classmates (and the instructor) who have allergies. The elevated stress levels associated with a presentation, getting your report to me, etc., tend to aggravate allergies. Hence, no smells... 4 - Please also have a hardcopy of your slides available to give to me before your presentation. I will need these for grading. 5 - If you want to do a demo, please bring your laptop. The CISE machine is not friendly to those who want to install software, and might not have the version of a compiler or media player that you would want or need to use. Please be advised. I look forward to seeing and hearing your presentations. The following two weeks, I will be grading your final reports, so I can get the grades in on time (and you can graduate). Best wishes for success in completing your projects!
