Schmalz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----| Message #12 |---- Date: Thu Nov 30 22:48:20 EST 2006 Subject: Congratulations on your Senior Projects!! Class: Thank you very much for the excellent work you did on your Senior Design projects!! I was very impressed with the scope and depth of the projects, as well as your professional pres- entations. Congratulations!! It is always a pleasure to see students work hard toward achieving a worthwhile goal. In each of your situations, the constraints were different, but the objectives were similar. By way of housekeeping details, the following students need to be sure that they get their advisor grading forms and other documents noted below to me no later than Monday 4 December 06: ALLEN Advisor Scoring Form CHAN Advisor Scoring Form + Adv ABET Form + Student Questn JACOBSON Advisor Scoring Form + Adv ABET Form + Student Questn ROMERO Advisor Scoring Form + Adv ABET Form + Student Questn where "Student Questn" denotes your student questionnaire, with the answers in MS-Word format, printed as *hardcopy* (no files in email, pls.) It was fun to work with you, and I wish you each the best of good health, happiness, and prosperity in your life and your careers. Please feel free to keep in touch via email, as I always enjoy hearing from my current and former students. Happy Holidaze! Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu PS. I will be reading through your Final Reports in detail next week. The grades will probably be posted around 15 or 16 December, dur (due) to the time it takes me to read through the reports, collate the data, read through your viewgraphs, etc. So, pls. be patient... ----| Message #11 |---- Date: Wed Nov 29 22:48:44 EST 2006 Subject: CIS4914 Presentations on Thursday - reminders Class: The presentations for CIS4914 this evening were excellent! I have several reminders, namely - 1) All presentations and final reports *must* be individual efforts - no group presentations, no group reports. 2) If you do not have your ADVISOR-GRADED FINAL REPORT, you will likely forfeit your ability to present. I was re- minded that my earlier email might have had an ambiguity about that, hence the preceding statement. YOU MUST BRING YOUR ADVISOR-GRADED FINAL REPORT TO THE PRESENTATION. 3) Also, you *must* present at your appointed time. Some students were very late, and that jeopardizes the chances of students who present after the latecomers. So, pls. be sure you are on time. Best wishes for success in your presentations! I look forward to seeing your results :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ----| Message #10 |---- Date: Tue Nov 28 16:57:32 EST 2006 Subject: Reminder to sign up for Senior Project presentations Class: There is less than one day left to sign up for Senior Project (CIS4914) Final Presentations. The signup sheets have been posted on my door for quite some time, and only 19 people out of the 30 registered for the class have signed up. Please sign up for a presentation slot. The presentations will be given on the following dates, times, and places (check room number, as it is not the same for both dates): Wed 29 Nov 06 - 03.00pm to 04.00pm - CSE/E404 Wed 29 Nov 06 - 05.30pm to 10.08pm - CSE/E404 Thu 30 Nov 06 - 07.00pm to 10.08pm CSE/E305 Your viewgraphs should consist of the following PowerPoint s slides: 1) Title slide 2) Project Statement, Motivation, etc., as before 3) Literature Sources (in correct format) 4) Problems Encountered, with Solutions 5) Work Remaining (if any) 6 ff) Either a Demo or Screenshots of your results more) Flowcharts or circuit diagrams of your project structure Plan to talk for 12-13 minutes, then have 1-2 minutes of Q&A. Thu 30 Nov 06 - 07.00pm to 10.08pm CSE/E305 Dress code is BUSINESS FORMAL (suit & tie or sportcoat & tie for men, trouser suit or skirted suit for women). If you do not have a suit, a coat, or a tie, please borrow one from a friend. DO NOT WEAR ANY KIND OF COLOGNE OR PERFUME. Due to the warm weather, many of us still have allergies, so this is a matter of health and politeness to your classmates. IF YOU ENTER THE PRESENTATION ROOM WITH COLOGNE OR PERFUME, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE. Sorry for the capital letters, but this is a constraint that many students seem to overlook while preparing for their Sr. Project presentation. You MUST bring to the presentation the following items: 1 - Hardcopy of your viewgraphs 2 - Advisor-graded copy of your Final Report 3 - Advisor Questionnaire completed by your advisor. This form is found at the following URL: http://www.cise.ufl.edu/~mssz/SeniorProject/ABET2006-CIS4914-FinalRpt-AdvsGrd- Questionnnaire-S06.pdf 4 - Student Questionnaire, to be completed IN MS-WORD FORMAT (no handwriting, please) by you. This form is found at the following URL: http://www.cise.ufl.edu/~mssz/SeniorProject/ABET2006-CIS4914-FinalPres-Student Questions-S06.doc PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL THESE FORMS TO ME. They must be given to me in hardcopy form, FULLY COMPLETED, together with your ADVISOR- GRADED FINAL REPORT. If you do not have your advisor-graded final report, then you might not be able to present. Please ask your advisor to have the graded report available for you by the day you present. If your advisor will not be in town, pls. have him or her leave the report with his/her departmental office, so you can pick it up on or before the day you present. My apologies for using CAPITAL LETTERS in the preceding statements, but I wanted to get your attention. This is the time of year when we are all overloaded, and it is easy to overlook email text. Please be sure that you complete all requirements. Feel free to email me if you have questions. Best wishes for success! I look forward to your presentations :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ----| Message #9 |---- Date: Thu Nov 16 19:06:45 EST 2006 Subject: CIS4914 Final Presentation Signup sheets posted Class: In the recent comment sheets that I asked you to fill out after Midterm Presentation #2, a big objection was the relatively shorter duration of time available to sign up for the Midterm presentations. I apologize for that - the short notice was due to the mess in my schedule resulting from a serious illness in my family. In response to your concerns, I have scheduled rooms for the CIS4914 Final Presentation, on the following dates and times: Wed 29 Nov 06 - 03.00pm to 10.08pm CSE/E404 Thu 30 Nov 06 - 07.00pm to 10.08pm CSE/E305 I will email you directions for your viewgraphs in about one week, also comments on dress code, etc. They must be given to me in hardcopy form, FULLY COMPLETED, together with your ADVISOR- GRADED FINAL REPORT. Because the presentations are approximately two weeks from today, you need to get your Final Report to your advisor for grading before you leave for Thanksgiving vacation. Please be sure that your final report is given to your advisor, not just placed in his or her mailbox. My apologies for using CAPITAL LETTERS in the preceding statements, but I wanted to get your attention. This is the time of year when we are all overloaded, and it is easy to overlook email text. Please be sure that you complete all requirements. Feel free to email me if you have questions. Congratulations on your excellent presentations for Midterm #2, and I look forward to seeing and hearing your final presentations, and to reading your final reports! Class: Congratulations on your excellent Midterm Presentations! The format and delivery were excellent in most cases. It is very gratifying to see this level of professionalism and performance. The following people need to schedule make-up presentations preferably during my office hours (posted on my website): AYAD JUTURU ROMERO CHESLOCK MOLINA TOMORE FORMAN NASH VITTONE GONZALEZ NOFAL WILSON I assumed that most of you would sign up for Thursday time slots, with just a few on Friday, but the converse occurred. My apologies to those of you who presented on Friday, if this caused any inconvenience. Also, the final presentation will be either the week after Thanksgiving Day holiday, or the following week, during the last two days of class. The dates and times will depend on room availability, and also my scheduling problems due to an ongoing medical crisis in my family. I will post the dates and times as soon as I know when the room is available. Thank you for your patience with the presentation scheduling process, and best wishes for success in your projects! Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ----| Message #7 |---- Date: Tue Nov 7 16:39:00 EST 2006 Subject: CIS4914 - Reminder - Midterm Presentation #2 Class: As noted in my previous email of Thursday 2 Nov, we will have CIS4914 Senior Design Presentation #2 on the following dates and times: Thur 09 Nov 2006 - 12.30pm - 04.30pm - CSE/E404 Fri 10 Nov 2006 - 04.30pm - 09.00pm - CSE/E404 Signup sheets are posted on my office door (CSE/E446). Attendance is required, and your presentation will be graded. It is important that you sign up by tomorrow, Wednesday 8 Nov 06. There are only a few people signed up, and the signup sheets will be taken down on the day of the presentation, prior to the start of presentations, so there is little time for last-minute signups. IF YOU ARE PRESENTING A GROUP PROJECT, YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATIONS. So, if there is a 3-person team, then you should try to sign up for three adjacent time slots. Each person presents his/her part of the project, plus an overall view of the project during the 10-minute time slot supplied for your presentation and Q&A. This presentation counts for 5 percent of grade. If you miss it, this will reflect very badly on your grade, and could result in you not being advanced over a grade boundary (e.g., from B to B+) if you have a borderline final score. I look forward to seeing *all* of you at the presentation - Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ----| Message #6 |---- Date: Thu Nov 2 17:06:58 EST 2006 Subject: CIS4914 Senior Design Presentation #2 Class: We will have CIS4914 Senior Design Presentation #2 on the following dates and times: Thur 09 Nov 2006 - 12.30pm - 04.30pm - CSE/E404 Fri 10 Nov 2006 - 04.30pm - 09.00pm - CSE/E404 Signup sheets are posted on my office door (CSE/E446). Attendance is required, and your presentation will be graded. Dress is business casual, please do not wear cologne or perfume due to this still being allergy season for many of us. Viewgraphs should be similar to the ones you presented in the first presentation, but with more detail, and an additional two or three slides that have screen grabs of your software, graphs or flowcharts of your program organization, etc. You do not need to present a demo or final report at this time. Please bring a hardcopy of your viewgraphs, so I can review them, for grading purposes. My apologies that I could not provide a longer lead time, but my schedule has been a disaster, due to family health problems and travel. I hope this does not unduly inconvenience you.
