---------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAS SENIOR PROJECT EMAIL ARCHIVE - Fall 2003, Spring 2004 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Message #14: Date: Fri Apr 16 15:49:34 EDT 2004 Subject: DAS Sr Proj - Some signups still needed Class: A few people have yet to sign up for their senior project final presentation (DAS). Pls. do so ASAP, as the presentations begin Monday morning, and the signup sheet will be taken down at that time. Also, you MUST have your advisor-graded final report ready to give to the TA or me AT THE TIME OF YOUR PRESENTATION. If your advisor has not yet graded your final report, pls. persuade him/her to do so. I look forward to seeing your presentations - Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ---- Message #13: Date: Mon Apr 5 19:41:34 EDT 2004 Subject: Final Presentation signup sheets for DAS Sr Project on door CSE/E446 Class: The final presentation signup sheets for DAS Senior Project are posted on my office door (CSE/E446). The sheet that you must use for signing up for your presentation is on the left-hand side of the door, above the doorknob. *** Do not use the other four sheets, which are clearly labelled "CIS4914", and are for CISE Senior Project. The Final Presentation will require you to bring the following AT THE TIME OF YOUR PRESENTATION: 1) A copy of your final report with the grading sheet on the front (like we did with the interim report). YOUR ADVISOR MUST FILL OUT AND SIGN THE FORM - NO EXCUSES!! 2) A hardcopy of your viewgraphs for me to look at. 3) Yourself - dress code is BUSINESS FORMAL (suit and tie with shoes for gents, suit with stockings and shoes for ladies). DO NOT WEAR PERFUME OR COLOGNE, as this aggravates the allergy problems many of us experience at this time of year. This has been a fun class, and I have enjoyed watching your projects develop as the academic year progressed. Now comes the best part - when you get to present your work in finished form, and your classmates and I have the privilege of watching your presentation! As posted on the Web page, the presentation time/date/place is: Monday 19 April 2004 9am - 3pm CSE/E404 (conf rm) I look forward to seeing your presentations!! Cheers, Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ---- Message #12: Date: Wed Mar 10 15:59:57 EST 2004 Subject: Signups for Midterm Presentation #1 posted Class: The signup sheet for Midterm Presentation #1 is posted on my office door. The date, times, and place are: Mon 22 March 2004 3:30-7:30pm CSE/E404 (conference room) This is a 10-minute presentation of your work to-date. You may use Web pages, .avi's or MS-compatible media files, in addition to the MS-PowerPoint viewgraphs. Dress is business casual (no jeans or t-shirts for presenters). You should plan to attend at least 90 minutes of the presentations, to see what and how your classmates present. All presentations are individual, not group, so pls. sign up one person per time slot on the sheet provided on my office door (CSE/E446). I look forward to seeing your presentations :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ---- Message #12: Date: Tue Feb 24 11:15:05 EST 2004 Subject: Reminder re: Meeting #1 for DAS Sr Proj 2 (my office, Wed) Class: Just a reminder to check your schedules and sign up for a meeting with me and the TA, Mr. Damkjer, in my office Wed afternoon of this week. Best wishes for success on your projects :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ---- Message #9: Date: Sat Jan 10 19:22:36 EST 2004 Subject: DAS Sr Proj 2 in Spring 04 - Welcome!! Class: Welcome to DAS Sr Proj 2 - we will be completing the projects begun in Fall 2003. I hope your schedules are now adjusted and you were able to register for the classes you wanted (or most of them :) We will have our first meeting on Thurs 15 Jan at 8pm in Room CSE/E119 (or E121 if 119 is in use). This will be a brief organizational meeting, so we can discuss the challenges and logistics of project completion, also what presentations will be given and your final report. I look forward to seeing you - have a pleasant weekend! Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu PS. Some of you indicated that the class website could be improved, an idea with which I heartily agree. If you have some ideas, maybe we could discuss those on Thurs nite. ---- Message #8: Date: Mon Dec 1 20:25:57 EST 2003 Subject: Grading criteria for DAS Sr Proj 1 report Class: Several of you have emailed me about a "bad link" on the DAS Sr Proj webpage. Pls. use the following link for getting your advisor to grade your report: http://www.cise.ufl.edu/~mssz/DPS3/DPS3-evaluation.html This has been active since Thu 21 Aug 03: 19:34:13 (date last modified). My apologies if there is another bad link...pls. email me the URL and I will fix it. Best wishes for success in your presentations - I look forward to seeing (and hearing) you :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ---- Message #7: Date: Mon Nov 24 19:57:47 EST 2003 Subject: Interim Reports and Signup for Midterm Presentation #2 Class: There have been some questions about the Interim Report and the Midterm Presentation #2 for Wednesday of next week. Here are the salient details: INTERIM REPORT is an abbreviated version of the Final Report outlined on the Web page. You should use the same sections, but your report only needs to be 6-8 pages. Go heavy on the planning and design (e.g., storyboarding for video production). Include your rationale for doing the project, what you expect to accomplish, and why it is useful/fun. Also include your literature sources (properly formatted) in the Bibliography. Clearly, you will not have any final results, so just state that the project is a work-in-progress. You should use the grading form available on the Web to have your advisor read through your report and grade you as indicated on the form. As far as Completeness goes, a max. grade is acceptable since you should not be penalized for having an incomplete project at this stage of your effort. (You can show your advisor this email to confirm that.) If you have other questions, pls. email me - I will be in the office tomorrow a.m. and early p.m. (until about 2pm). MIDTERM PRESENTATION #2 is a "design review" of your project. You will talk about 10 minutes, so plan 7-9 viewgraphs. The organization of your presentation is described on the Web. If you are building software, then pls. include flowchart(s) and screenshots. If a video, then the storyboard at multiple levels of resolution...etc. Dress code is business casual - trousers, shoes+sox, a shirt or sweater - neat but not formal (e.g., no ties, no jeans). This presentation will count 5 percent of your grade, so pls. be rehearsed and fluent. Also, you will want to have your references in a standard format, as we discussed for the last presentation. Some of you may understandably think this is all very juvenile, but it is important to develop good presentation skills, esp. in the competitive commercial environment that we have today. In the context of the course, we have to work with what we have, and that is why we do the presentations in different styles and with different dress codes. My apologies if this seems tedious, but I do try to explain... Again, if you have questions, pls. email me and I will try to answer your queries tomorrow before 2pm. Also, the signup sheet is not very full - only a few people have signed up. These are individual presentations, and the deadline for signup will creep up quickly, so pls. choose your time and get ready. Finally, I want to remind you that the reports and presentations must be individual efforts - no direct copying of text, althought paraphrasing (i.e., within a working group) is allowed. Best wishes for success on your projects and reports :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ---- Message #6: Date: Mon Nov 17 17:12:25 EST 2003 Subject: DAS Sr. Proj. 1 Midterm Presentation #2 signup sheets posted Class: The signup sheets for DAS Sr. Proj. 1 Midterm Presentation #2 are posted on my office door. The time/date info is: Wednesday 03 Dec 2003 5pm - 9pm CSE/E404 (same room as before) You *must* present individual presentations in E404, not in my office. Also, pls. be aware that the signup sheets for CIS4914 (also a Sr. Proj. course) will be next to the DAS project signups so do not confuse the two courses (sheets are clearly labelled). I will be emailing you details about your presentation later this week. It will be 10 minutes, with 2 min. of questions, and dress is business casual (pls. no jeans or t-shirts). Thank you for your patience, and best wishes for success in your projects! Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ---- Message #5: Date: Fri Nov 14 15:08:53 EST 2003 Subject: REVE codes, presentations, etc. Class: I was very encouraged by your presentations last week. Nice slides, good presentation style - keep up the good work!! Also, I want to mention, as I did before, that my office hours are posted on the Web at www.cise.ufl.edu/~mssz . If you need access code for REVE, pls. feel free to stop by. For example, I am in from 4:10pm - 5pm today. I look forward to seeing your next presentations! Happy weekend :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu ---- Message #4: Date: Fri Oct 31 16:45:12 EST 2003 Subject: Oops...wrong signups? Class: I just noticed that some of the CISE Sr. Project students (names withheld) have signed up for the DAS Sr. Project presentation (CIS4930), which is not correct. That was the left-hand signup sheet, and was clearly labelled DAS Sr. Proj. 1. The CISE Sr. Project signups (CIS4914) are the two sheets on the right-hand side of my door. So, would you pls. check your signups, to see that you are on the correct sheet (left-most page on my door)? Also, there are quite a few empty slots. I hope I got it across to you that each person must present his/her own slide presentation, and that there are to be no group presentations. So I want to see each person in the class signed up for a presentation slot. Thank you, and have a pleasant weekend :) Mark. mssz@cise.ufl.edu . ---- Message #4: Date: Mon Oct 27 19:49:44 EST 2003 Subject: Signup sheets for Midterm Presentation #1 on door of CSE/E446 Class: The signup sheets for Midterm Presentation #1 have been posted on my office door (CSE/E446).
