I'm a faculty member with the University of Florida's
Computer
and Information Science & Engineering Department.
I spent the 2003-2004 academic year, and the first half of
2004-2005, as a Fulbright Scholar
doing research, teaching, and writing a textbook at the
Universidad de los Andes, in Merida,
Venezuela. This was my second Fulbright award.
I spent the 1996-97 academic year as a Fulbright
Scholar doing research and teaching at the
University of Costa Rica.

While in Venezuela, I found that a distant relative of mine
distinguished himself in the Liberation War of 1821, under El
Libertador General Simón Bolívar. El General and his
Lieutenants are immortalized in this impressive monument in
downtown Caracas. Click on the pictures to
see larger ones. Dang, I even look like him !
I recently hosted C++ designer
Bjarne Stroustrup as a Barr Systems Distinguished Lecturer.
He gave two talks:
