Welcome to my homepage
- Research
My research is mainly focused on generic rigidity theory, especially combinatorial rigidity in 3D and higher dimensions. The combinatorial characterization of 2D generic rigidity is given by the famous Laman's theorem.
But the 3D rigidity characterization problem stands a long open question.
My advisor and I are working on good combinatorial upper bounds for the rank of the 3D 3D rigidity matroid.
Our bounds are expected to give better algorithms for detecting 3D overconstraints and dependencies. The following is a list of publications:
- Jialong Cheng, Meera Sitharam, Ileana Streinu. ``Nucleation-free 3D rigidity''. Accepted to Canadian Conference on Computational Geometry (CCCG), 2009, (Journal version in preparation).
- Jialong Cheng, Meera Sitharam. ``Maxwell-independence: a new rank estimate for 3D rigidity matroids''. Proceedings of FWCG: Fall Workshop in Computational geometry, Oct. 2010 . Journal version can be found on arXiv(http://arxiv.org/abs/1010.4052).

Short CV
I graduated in 2008 with a B.E. in Computer Science and
Technology from Special class for the Gifted Young at University of
Science and Technology of China (USTC).
Now I am working on combinatorial rigidity theory with supervisor Dr. Meera Sitharam at CISE department of University of Florida.
