Research in Pervasive Computing [detail]
  ICTA Laboratory, CISE Department
Pervasive computing aims at creating environments saturated with computing and communication yet gracefully integrated with human users. Coined as the computer paradigm of the 21st century, it is crucial to explore and understand the relations between users, the space, and the pervasive computing systems.
My primary research interest is to explore suitable programming models for intelligent environments. As it is essential to improve the productivity of programmers, raising the safety and quality of pervasive systems, and creating an open platform for interoperability.
Aside from this primary objective, I am also working on establishing the performance evaluation framework, and visualization tools for pervasive computing. My other research interests include mobile computing, computer network and Internet services.
Teaching
Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Mentor and Tutor [detail]

Instructor, CGS 3460 Programming Using C, Offered in Spring 2006
Teaching Assistant, CEN 4500 Computer Network Fundamentals, Offered in Spring 2007
Guest Lecturer, CIS 6930 Special Topics on Sensor Networks, Offered in Spring 2007
There is no joy like watching people learn, as it is nothing short of miracle to observe the crossing of the rubicon from the wilderness of unknown to the land of knowledge. See the little gears turning in the heads, and hear when it finally clicks. To know you have contributed in leading the way, igniting the spark, or giving the final push can be the most satisfactory experience in life.
I have taught undergrad introductory C language, guest lectured in graduate courses in mobile computing and sensor network, and TA for upper undergrad level computer network. I mentored term projects and independent studies, and also tutored in programming language, network, math, circuit design, English and Chinese.

Participating in various services, both professionally and personally, give you a chance to give back, a chance to contribute, a chance to voice your opinion and perhaps a chance to extend your horizon.
At the end of day, it is very comforting to know that, you, may just have revealed a new future for a kid, have helped a few colleagues improve and extend their work, have made a conference a better gathering, and hopefully, make acquaintance with a few more friends along the way.
