The aim of this conference is to focus on problems and perspectives of the Internet and World Wide Web as a tool for modeling and simulation. This conference is sponsored by the Society for Computer Simulation International (SCS). Internet and modeling practitioners are encouraged to submit proposals based on their applications and demonstrations of computer simulation techniques.

Web-based simulation represents a convergence of computer simulation methodologies and applications within the World Wide Web (WWW). There are many possible bridge areas between the web and the simulation field. Web-based simulation does not mean only "distributed simulation" or "simulation documentation." The introduction and wide-spread use of the web suggests that there are many areas where web science and technology will meet simulation to provide impetus to both fields. Here is a sampling of some of the recent simulation projects placed into the framework of the web. This will give you an idea of some of the possibilities.

RELEVANCE OF YOUR PAPER TO THE CONFERENCE THEME

All submissions should be oriented around either or both of the following two themes: 1) a connection with the current web, or 2) a connection with the future state of the web. In other words, we will not be accepting submissions unless they address at least one of these themes. For theme 2, be sure to specify the difference between the current web and your envisioning of the future web, and state explicitly how the web will evolve in that direction.

DEADLINES and SUBMISSION:

• Want to chair a session, submit a tutorial, or exhibit your software or hardware at this conference? If so, send email to the co-chairs by May 30, 1997: Paul Fishwick or David Hill.
• We are supporting and requesting full multimedia submissions. Questions on the submission process should be directed to Roger Smith. To create a submission, we first need to receive an extended abstract in HTML that is roughly the equivalent of 1 to 3 single-space printed pages. The HTML abstract will help us to put your submission on line. The extended abstract should be composed of a 1) title, 2) author list, and 3) body, and will be created in the form of a compressed multimedia file. For the author list, please specify the entire postal address along with phone/fax, E-mail address, and web home page if you have one. Please note important information on the submission format. This format holds for structuring the extended abstract as well as for the full submission. Send the abstract as a compressed multimedia file using anonymous ftp to www.isima.fr/scs/incoming/websim/ by June 15, 1997.
• Notification of general suitability for the conference will be made by August 1, 1997.
• Once an abstract has been accepted, the following step is to send your submission using anonymous ftp to www.isima.fr/scs/incoming/websim/ by August 31, 1997.
• Authors must submit a final hardcopy paper, conference registration with payment, and copyright transfer form (from an author kit that you will receive in the mail) by no later than October 3, 1997.
• The 1) Compressed Postscript file, and 2) Compressed Multimedia file must be sent using anonymous ftp to www.isima.fr/scs/incoming/websim/ by October 31, 1997.
