Software Search Guide

• Hints:
  • Use general search and often in the advanced mode. For example, if you are searching for a "Table", and you want to not get physical tables that are for sale, try non ".com" domains. This will exclude valid .com 2D tables, though.
  • Combine the main news story keywords with the keywords below. For example, "hunger chart" or "tree obesity".
  • Common search areas: Google Images
• Time Series (Project 2)
  • General: graph, chart, diagram, figure, illustration, statistic
  • Time Specific: time, hour, day, week, month, year
  • Time Derivatives: growth, death, any verb involving time passage
  • Time Series Related: timeline, schedule, forecast, prediction
  • Time Series web sites: Google Finance w/ News BlogPulse Blog Trends Google News Trends
• Equation (Project 3):
  • Equation-specific: equation, formula, decision tree
  • Data-specific (then fit using regression to obtain the equation): data, chart, probability, correlation, regression (do not use a time series)
