Grammar formalism is one of the earliest approaches for story understanding in natural language processing. In this paper, the research is done on the Story Parsing Grammar (SPG) with attribute mechanism. Firstly we give a short review on the early grammar formalism for story understanding. Then SPG is introduced as being high-dimensional, context-sensitive and pragmatics-oriented. Afterwards we analyse the SPG augmented with attributes and attribute rules. An example is given to show the augmented SPG and its parsing in detail. The merits and drawbacks of this formalism are concluded at last.
