CLASSES: A Class Scheduling Expert System

AUTHORS:

ABSTRACT:

The scheduling of classes and the assignment of faculty to teach them is a difficult problem in the best of circumstances. The CLASSES system combines rule-based components and procedural components in a single system designed to produce error-free class schedules in which faculty are assigned to classes based on teaching preferences as well as ability. In addition to handling normal scheduling environments, CLASSES is also capable of handling multiprogram and/or multicampus environments.
