As Engineers, with gentleness
We tame the mighty Pegasus
Of Nature's lightning force and fire,
To serve mankind, and to inspire
Our minds as we explore the path
Of physics, chemistry, and math.
So engineers with calling true,
There's work enough for all to do.
The
Engineers of
Gator Nation,
Whose work shows great imagination,
Take from
Da Vinci,
inspiration;
A noble scholar,
His work reveals his innovation,
As true inventor.
With friends and peers of college years
We learn from UF scholars,
Becoming Gator Engineers
In all twelve college majors.
Agricultural Engineers,
Whose work bears fruit as harvest nears,
Tame all things biological
From Ceres'
seed,
And creatures at our beck and call,
Of which we need.
Biomedical Engineers,
Who redesign hearts, knees, and ears,
The mysteries the body tells,
They seek to know,
Build scaffolding for human cells
On which to grow.
Chemical Engineers are fond
Of harnessing the atom's bond,
And guide a process chemical,
With energy,
At pressures measured in pascal,
Efficiently.
The
Civil Engineer is one
Who builds with strength of many ton,
Material: concrete and steel,
And all the more;
Prepares our mode for transport's wheel,
And coastal shore.
Computer Science Engineer,
Unknown of yore and yesteryear,
Creates the software logical
On forge of fire,
And tames the hardware physical
In gates and wire.
The
Engineer Electrical
(Electron, wave or particle?)
Controls the strike of lightning's call
And tames its fire;
Creates the circuits practical
Which we desire.
Environmental Engineers,
Who mitigate our Nature's tears,
Revise our ways for future years,
Sustainably,
For
Terra's sake are pioneers,
Organically.
For those who seek the optimal
In method, process practical:
The
Engineers Industrial
Will find the way,
By models all math'matical
Without delay.
We brandish swords of higher math,
Algorithms redefined;
Headfirst we face the Hydra's wrath:
Problem solved! The truth we find.
In stone and copper, bronze and steel,
Ceramic, polymer, reveal
The craft Hephaestus
taught to all
Who watch his fire,
And
Engineer Material
By mind inspired.
The
Engineer Mechanical
Tames forces thermal, physical,
In league with aeronautical,
And tames the flow
Of fluid, gas, hydraulical,
Yet more they know.
To harness atom's nucleus,
By
Engineering Nuclear,
Tames fires of
Prometheus,
Kept safely bound;
Their methods scan our human core,
In image found.
Creating tools for sick to heal
And energy from fission,
Developing the modern wheel,
The very small - our vision.
Yet far above Hellenic myth
Is He who filled Da Vinci with
A mind inspired and with it came
His calling true:
From Nature learn, her secrets tame;
His work we do.
As children of
Da Vinci all,
Observe and learn at Nature's school,
Her beauty, truth math'matical
Become our guide and willing tool.
Her chemistry of atom's dance
And physics forces' elegance,
They guide our quest, prepare the mind
To solve the problems of mankind.
