Topics for Midterm II: SVD (from matrix theory), cumulative distributions, probability density functions, functions of a random variable, functions of two or more random variables, entropy, mutual information, information-theoreticVenn diagrams, convexity and Jensen's inequality, Kullback-Leibler divergence (2.1,2.2,2.3,2.4,2.6,2.7). You may bring your class notes, handouts, graded homeworks and homework solutions.

We are using Serge Lange's Linear Algebra, Peter Szekeres' A Course in Modern Mathematical Physics and Gilbert Strang's Linear Algebra for the notes and handouts so far. Mathworld was used for the material on Rings and Fields.
