Computer Science Minor General Requirements

This program is designated for students who have an interest in computer and information science and engineering. The program was created to provide students with the academic background necessary to understand the application of computers to scientific and engineering problems, and to prepare students for the possible graduate study in computer-related disciplines. Majors in Computer engineering and Computer Information Sciences are not eligible to receive this minor.

To apply for the minor, the student must have a 2.5 GPA and complete the following courses with a grade of C or better:
  • MAC 2312 - Analytical Geometry and Calculus II (MAC2311)
  • CIS 3020 - Introduction to Computer & Information Sciences (MAC2311)
    OR CIS 3023 Programming for CIS majors II (CIS 3022)
To obtain the minor, the student must also complete the following courses with a grade of C or better:
  • COT 3100 - Applications of Discrete Structures (MAC 2311)
  • CDA 3101 - Introduction to Computer Organization (MAX 2311, CIS 3020)
  • COP 3530 - Data Structures and Algorithms (CIS 3020, COT 3100, MAC 2312)
  • COP 4600 - Operating Systems (COP 3530)
TOTAL HOURS REQUIRED FOR THE CISE MINOR: 20

At least three of the following courses must be taken at the University of Florida: CIS 3020, COT 3100, CDA 3101, COP 3530, and COP 4600. The Computer and Information Science and Engineering Department administers this minor program.
