Interests
My research interests are in: Medical Image Analysis, Image Processing and Computational Vision, Computer Graphics, Statistical Learning, Information Geometry and Applied Mathematics. Some salient features of my published work are: (1) We introduced the geometric active contours idea in a level-set framework for image segmentation to the field of Computer Vision (SPIE'93, ECCV'94, PAMI'95), (2) We developed the fastest pre-conditioners to-date, for a host of early vision problems that involved solving elliptic PDEs including (a) surface reconstruction, (b) shape from shading, (c) the lightness problem (d) optical flow (see PAMI'97 and IJCV'98); (3) Several efficient algorithms for uni-modal and multi-modal image (rigid and non-rigid) registration in Medical Imaging (MedIA'98, MedIA'03, IEEE TMI'02), (4) Diffusion weighted MRI smoothing, estimation and segmentation (IPMI'03,TMI'04,TMI'05, NI'07, TMI'07,NI'09); (5) We introduced a novel measure of entropy which has more general properties than Shannon entropy and applied it to multi-modal image registration with superior results in comparison to mutual information-based methods (see IPMI'03,IJCV'07). (6) Pioneered the development of the tensor distribution model for achieving multi-fiber reconstruction from DWMRI, (7) Developed the first methods in literature for imposing positive definiteness on rank-4 tensor field estimation from DWMRI.
