On Desk Consultants
Desk hours represent a contract with the students and faculty for availability of CISE resources in the CSE Building. Due to this, it is important that the hours scheduled for a given semester are adhered to by those on the desk. While great flexibility is given for the initial scheduling, once chosen, those hours should be kept to the best of the ability of the employee.
The following is the schedule policy for On Desk Consultants:
- The consultant is expected to adhere to the schedule chosen at the beginning of the semester to the best of his/her ability. Continued inability to meet scheduled hours may require punitive actions being taken.
- In the event of sickness or other complications, the consultant should contact the Senior Admin as soon as possible. All e-mail regarding such absences should be sent to the consult mailing list. In the event e-mail cannot be sent, the Senior Admin should be notified by phone, and will then send e-mail to consult.
- Time off from the normal schedule is allowed, provided the
following conditions are met:
- The Senior Admin is notified at least one week in advance
- Arrangements are made for another consultant to take over the hours
- Extra hours worked must be approved by the Senior Admin. Any unapproved hours marked on the time card may not be approved by the Senior Admin if provisions were not made beforehand.
- Regular breaks in the schedule, such as lunches, etc., that are to be longer than 15 minutes, should be reflected in the schedule. Otherwise, breaks should be limited to 15 min every four hours, and a sign should be placed on the door during this time stating the consultant is on break.
- Any variations in the schedule due to sickness, tardiness, etc., should be reflected on the consultant's time card.
- In the event that hours are marked on your timecard for times after they are turned in, and you are unable to make those times, this should be noted on the next time card. E.g., if you are unable to make your 10-2 shift on the Thursday after time cards are turned in, the next time card should reflect 4 hours less than normal.
