cdw: the career development workshop

The career fair that is specifically organized for CISE department students. It is generally held 1-2 days before the University's career fair organized by the Career Resource Center. It is a great platform for CISE students to interact with employers and get to know the requirements better, showcase their skills etc. It helps take some burden off so that CISE students are able to meet more company representatives during the University career fair. Amazon, Bloomberg, Infinite Energy, Disney World, Harris Corp are some of the companies that are registered for the CDW.

ASCIE members are responsible to coordinate with volunteers and arrange for setting up tables for representatives, arrange food and refreshment, transportation etc. The call for T-shirt designs are made and students have the chance to show their design skills and grab cash prize also.

ASCIE members get together weekly at a local venue to spend some time getting to know other CISE graduate students, exchange ideas, discuss research, and more!

programming contest

An annual programming contest is held for the CISE students to find out the top-coder among us. Handsome cash prizes are at stake and more exciting is the fact that one gets to showcase his programming skills. Correct and efficient implementation is the most important criteria for selecting the winner apart from code structure and proper comments. There is no fixed format of the contest. Sometimes it may be a 2 hr assignment to be completed in the Gartner Lab or at other times students can do it from home.

The singlemost entertaining and thrilling experience brought to you by ASCIE. Computer games are the passion of every Computer Science students in one way or the other. Why not test each other's passion in a friendly contest. Thats what it is. Teams need to register prior to the contest. Popular games like Conter Strike is selected for the contest but the games are generally chosen based on an online survey among the students and which can attract maximum participation.

So you think you can cook? Why not show what special did you cook today and also get a chance to taste other delicacies brought by others. Its an excellent event to socialize, taste and learn the cuisine of other countries, tell others about your favorite dish and how to prepare it. A single place for all food lovers to come together and share. The photo gallery contains some snaps of potlucks enjoyed.

The annual department picnic is held generally during spring session. Its the best way to take a break from studies and enjoy the company of your friend in an exotic location in and around Gainesville. It was recently celebrated at Lake Wauberg and the students had a lot of fun in Boat riding, bike trailing, scaling heights etc. and lavish food to suit all tastes.
