Prof. Jermaine, Subramanian Arumugam, Abhijit Pol, and Prof. Dobra won the Sigmod 2007 Best Paper Award for the paper titled Scalable Approximate Query Processing with the DBO System
Database Center Reunion

Greeting, Gator and DB Center alumni:
Based on our current effort, we were able to get about 30 positive responses for a UF DB Center
Reunion. With such a large alumni base as we have for the DB Center, we should be able to get at least
50. Thus, we will postpone the reunion (originally planned for this Spring) and renew our effort to
contact additional alumni. But apparently, it will not just happen. We all need to pitch in and
help to make it a reality:
- We all need to make a real effort to contact as many of your friends and fellow DB Center alumni as possible.
- New ideas to reach alumni:
- Louiqa suggested that we set up some mechanism so that everyone can update on what he/she is doing and start networking, perhaps a website / wiki for alumni. Does anyone have any experience with a wiki or want to volunteer to help with this?
- A yahoo! group?
- Any other ideas?
We will aim for a Fall 2006 date (during the Gator football season, homecoming, etc.?). I realize that we are all busy. But, with some effort from all of us, we can make this into a big success. I hope that you and your family can join us. It would be great to see everyone again.
Database Center Picnic
Annual Picnic in April or May at local spring or park. Details are announced each spring.
