Final Exam Review

The final exam will be cumulative and it will cover all materials discussed in class this semester. There will be ten problems on the final, and roughly 30% of the exam will be on materials not covered in the two previous midterms.

For materials covered in Chapters 8 and 9, as a basic, you should know how to solve problems in Homeworks 10, 11 and the following supplemental Exercises (Mostly from Chapter 9).

  • Section 9.2: Problems 30, 34 and 53. (Skip these problems)
  • Section 9.3: Problems 42, 45, 57(a), 63, and 64. (Skip 63 and 64)
  • Section 9.4: 17, 19, 21 and 29. (Skip 29)
  • Section 9.5: 1-10. (These are fun !!).
For previous materials, you should know how to solve problems in the five quizzes, two previous review problem sets and midterms:

  • Quiz 1 .
  • Quiz 2 .
  • Quiz 3 .
  • Quiz 4 .
  • Quiz 5 (Make sure that you know the definitions of symmetric, reflexive, etc. relations.)
  • Review Problems 1
  • Midterm 1 (Make sure that you know how to solve the problems.)
  • Review Problems 2
  • Midterm 2 (Make sure that you know how to solve the problems.)

(Update: Since the final exam will contain several (almost exact) problems from the list above, the solutions, unfortunately, will not be provided this time. However, these problems are straightforward enough that you are not expected to encounter any serious difficulty.
