- 12/20: 11:30 p.m.:
One last detail: Initially, we simply averaged
15 homework scores (14 homeworks, but homework 12
had two parts). This is what appears on Myitlab.
The other way of doing it is to average the two
scores for Homework 12, and average the result
with the other 13 scores. It makes a difference
in the final grade for about 50 of you (some for,
some against). We did it both ways and used
whichever Homework score was higher.
This is not reflected on Myitlab, but *is*
reflected on the final grades we've reported to
the Registrar. In Spanglish: Meri Crismas !
- 12/18: 1:30 a.m.:
Final course
point totals have been posted on Myitlab. A 1.9%
bonus was added to everyone's score. This consists
of 0.4% (2 extra points on Exam 3), plus 1.5%
overall. Myitlab reports this figure rounded to
1 decimal place, but we used the actual exact
figure. No additional bumps beyond this bonus,
regardless of how close the result is to the next letter
grade threshold. Sorry, gotta cut somewhere.
The letter grade thresholds appear on the Syllabus.
The average point total is 83.63 on our Excel
spreadsheet, a B course average. Not bad at all.
Distribution of grades:
A: 19.3%
A-: 10.6%
B+: 19.5%
B: 20.3%
B-: 9.9%
C+: 6.0%
C: 3.9%
C-: 1.8%
D+: 2.1%
D: 1.4%
D-: 0.5%
E: 4.6%
That adds up to 99.9, but that's Excel for ya, go figure.
Happy Holidays, everyone.
- 12/17: 2:00 a.m.:
IMPORTANT ! Due to a couple of glitches (what else ?),
some Exam 3 grades were calculated incorrectly. Thanks to the students who
reported the errors. We've removed the grades from Myitlab, and we'll post the
corrected exam grades by noon Thursday. We'll have final grades up by Friday, three days
before Registar's deadline. See why we must all start these things EARLY ?? :-)
- 12/16: 6:30 p.m.:
IMPORTANT ! The access problem to Myitlab has been
resolved.
- 12/16: 4:30 p.m.:
IMPORTANT ! Unbeknowst to us, an expiration date
of Dec. 15 for some of your MYitlab sections has gone into effect.
We're working on restoring them, and they should be back online soon.
- 12/14: In spite of our best efforts
to correct typos during Exam 3 in Carlton Auditorium (a typo
on the corrections didn't help, either), news of the corrections
did not reach the groups in CSE A101 in time: a good number
of students had already left. Instead of dropping the four
exam questions from the exam (leaving 46 questions), we'll
mark as correct all four questions for everyone, and count
all 50 questions. That should boost the exam average somewhat.
Those questions are listed HERE.
A single session for answering questions about Exam 3 will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2:00-5:00 p.m. in Room E309 CSE. (Almost) all TAs have committed to being there.
Here is the key to Exam 3.
- 12/10: Contrary to rumors that
appear to be circulating, there are NO PLANS for
dropping students' lowest homework score in this
course. All justified excuses for missed homeworks
have been processed. Many other requests for
makeup homeworks have been denied, all of them in
accordance with published course policies.
A small statistical adjustment (e.g. rounding up) might
(emphasis, *might*) be made on the final point
tally for each student, but that won't
happen until after we have ALL the numbers in,
i.e. after Exam 3.
- 12/07:

- 10/26, 8:45 p.m. :
IMPORTANT !
Myitlab is misbehaving tonight, with very high
response times, timing us out when we attempt
to change tonight's due date. We will accept
without penalty Homework 9 until tomorrow, Tuesday,
October 27, at 11:59 p.m. Hopefully Myitlab will
feel better in the morning.
- 10/16 :
IMPORTANT !
More than 80 (EIGHTY !) students filled out the
scantron incorrectly in Exam 1. All of these had to
be graded and entered by hand, causing confusion
and delays. Therefore, we're changing some of the
procedures for Exam 2.
1. We will no longer check student IDs during the exam. It will be done as you hand it in. At that time, proctors will do their best to check that your information on the scantron is correct, BUT ...
2. There WILL be a 20% penalty on the exam, for any student who fails to enter ALL of the following items correctly on the scantron:
a. Signature,
b. UF ID number,
c. Exam form code,
d. Section number.
e. Your name.
- 10/16 :
IMPORTANT !
Registar has been unable to find
enough large rooms for us for Exam 2 on the
originally scheduled date. Therefore,
The date for Exam 2 has been changed to
Tuesday, November 3, at 8:20 p.m.
The room asignments will be announced later.
Please let us know, by October 23 at the latest,
whether you have a conflict with another exam.
Keep in mind that in case of a conflict, assembly
exams (like ours) take precedence over all
non-assembly exams, and in case of a conflict
between two assembly exams, the higher numbered
course has priority, so the lower numbered course
must arrange a makeup.
- 10/08: Dr. Bermudez's office
hours are cancelled for the week of Oct. 18-23, as

- 09/14 :
IMPORTANT ! Exam 1 will be held
on Monday, October 5, evening periods E2-E3
(beginning at 8:20 p.m.). The exam will last 90
minutes. Here are the locations:
Sections 1057, 1059, 5116 (instructors Yeralan, Chen): WEIM (Weimer Hall) 1064.
Sections 1060, 6277 (instructors Accisano, Rivera): NRN (Norman Hall) 137.
Sections 1055, 1056 (instructors Robb, Sivakumar): MCCC (McCarty Hall C) 100.
These locations can be found online on UF's campus map. Enter the building code (e.g. WEIM) in the search bar to locate the building on the map.
It is CRUCIAL that you attend the exam at the correct location. If you do not, your answers will NOT match the scantron, and your exam grade will be a zero. You MUST know your section number, as you will fill it out on the scantron. If you enter the wrong section number, your answers will not match the scantron, and your exam grade will be a zero.
- 09/12 : If your Myitlab course suddenly "disappears" (or says "access denied"), it's because we have deleted it due to you're being enrolled in the wrong section in Myitlab. You will be unable to submit homeworks (and you will lose the credit for them) until you fix this. All students in this category have been emailed several times, but some have not yet replied. If you are in this category, you need to contact the head TA Jason at ychi@cise.ufl.edu as soon as possible.
- 09/09 : The myitlab section you enroll must be the same as the section you enrolled in registrar. If not, please contact the head TA Jason at ychi@cise.ufl.edu as soon as possible.
- 09/07 : IMPORTANT ! When doing your homework, Please DO NOT click on the "SAVE FOR LATER" button once you have answered all questions. The Myitlab system has a bug, and it will prevent you from returning to your assignment later. If you finish answering the questions, SUBMIT your homework (you can always submit it again, before the deadline). If you have not answered all questions, it's OK to Save for Later.
