Welcome to the 4th Biannual CISE Career Development Workshop!
Have you ever been to a career showcase and gotten lost in a crowd of students from all different majors? Have you ever ended up in line for a company's booth just to ask if they hire computer engineering students? This is your chance to meet with industry representatives interested in computer engineering students and who are coming just to meet with you!
Take advantage of this golden chance to interact with company representatives, score internships, co-ops, or full-time positions, get your resume critiqued, hone your networking skills with corporate representatives, get awesome FREE FOOD and amazing door prizes including a GRAND PRIZE! If you are an UNDERGRADUATE student:
- Network with people in the industry
- Learn about companies and opportunities in your field. Find out what each company has to offer.
- Get your name out to the companies in which you're interested
- Score an internship, co-op, or full-time position
- Get help with choosing a career path
- Get your resume critiqued
- Find out what skills to build to score your dream job
If you are a MASTER'S student:
- Apply for internships and full-time positions
- Get your name out to the companies in which you're interested
- Practice your interviewing and networking skills
- Talk to top industry representatives on a one-to-one basis
- Ask questions about companies, positions and the application or interview process
- Get your resume critiqued
If you are a PHD student:
- Score an internship, co-op, or full-time position
- Get your resume or CV critiqued
- Get to know what research is going on in the industrial world
- Build industry contacts
- Get help choosing a career path and deciding between academia and industry
If you are an Alumnus:
- Full-time positions
- Get to come back to school and have friendly conversation with students or employers
Dress Code for the Workshop
- Business casual or Business formal
- Make a good impression on the employers (no shorts or t-shirts please)!
Things to Bring to the Workshop
- Copies of your resume
- Copies of your cover letter and/or references
- Paper and pen to take notes
- UF ID
Before the Workshop
- Prepare your resume and get it critiqued at the Career Resource Center
- Be ready for a one-minute interview. Make your first impression matter. Work on your handshake and be prepared with 2-3 lines to catch an employer's attention
- Research companies that you are interested in. Use this to show employers your genuine interest in their company
- Have questions prepared for the employer
- Know your resume and your strengths and weaknesses
- Sign-up for mock interviews at CRC and hone your interviewing skills
On the Day of the Workshop
- Be professional in clothing and behavior
- Check-in at the front desk of Touchdown Terrace with your UF ID. You will get your name tag from the check-in desk.
- Talk to employers and take notes to make follow-up easier
- Eat lots of delicious food!
After the Workshop
- Send thank you notes to the employers
- Re-submit your resume through company's online application
- Be ready to get called for an interview within the next few days (Check your email!)
